Intraoral Scanner & In-House 3D Printing
DFWOMS captures a radiation-free digital impression with our 3Shape Trios® scanner and produces surgical guides, models, and appliances in-house with our 3D printer — a complete digital workflow that means fewer office visits and faster, more precise care. Serving patients in Irving, Mesquite, and Ennis, TX.
3Shape Trios® intraoral scanner — no impressions, no radiation
DFWOMS uses the 3Shape Trios® intraoral scanner, one of the leading digital impression systems available, to capture a precise 3D digital model of your mouth in just a few minutes. A small wand is passed gently over your teeth and gums — there's no radiation involved and none of the messy alginate impression material that traditional dentistry has relied on for decades.
These digital scans serve the same purpose traditional impressions once did: they're used for dental restorations, night guards, and — critically for surgical cases — patient-specific surgical planning that improves accuracy before a procedure ever begins.
Our in-house 3D printer — from digital scan to physical model
Once your intraoral scan is captured, it doesn't have to travel to an outside lab to become something useful. DFWOMS prints directly in-house, turning that digital file into a physical surgical guide, model, or appliance — often within the same visit or the next day, rather than the one to two weeks a typical outsourced dental lab requires.
Keeping fabrication in-house also means our surgeons control quality at every step: the same team that captured your scan reviews and approves the printed piece before it's ever used in your care.
Surgical guides printed from your own anatomy allow our surgeons to place implants with pre-planned precision — following the exact angle and depth mapped out during your CT and scan review. Faster turnaround also means fewer appointments and less time between your consultation and treatment.
What we fabricate in-house
How scanning and printing work together
The intraoral scanner and the 3D printer are two halves of a single digital workflow — from capturing your anatomy to producing a precise physical tool your surgeon uses in treatment. Together, they let our team plan and execute your case with a level of precision and turnaround time that traditional impressions and outsourced labs can't match.
The 3Shape Trios® scanner captures a radiation-free 3D digital model of your teeth and soft tissue in just a few minutes.
Your surgeon reviews the digital model — alongside CT imaging when needed — to design the exact guide, model, or appliance your case requires.
The approved design is printed on-site, turning the digital plan into a physical surgical guide, model, or appliance — without waiting on an outside lab.
Our team inspects every printed piece for fit and accuracy before it's used in your treatment — whether that's a surgical guide, a night guard, or a provisional restoration.
Questions about our scanning & 3D printing technology
Our 3D printer produces surgical guides for implant placement, diagnostic and study models, night guards and occlusal splints, provisional restorations, and custom trays for sedation cases — all designed from your own digital scan.
No. The 3Shape Trios® intraoral scanner uses light, not radiation, to capture a 3D digital model of your mouth. It's completely safe and typically takes just a few minutes.
Printing in-house removes the shipping and processing time an outside lab requires — often one to two weeks — and keeps quality control inside our own surgical team. Many guides, models, and appliances can be ready within the same visit or the next day.
For most cases at DFWOMS, the digital scan fully replaces traditional alginate impressions. Your surgeon will let you know during your consultation if any part of your treatment requires a different approach.
