& Facial Liposuction
in Dallas–Fort Worth
Whether you want to add definition where it’s lacking or remove excess volume where it isn’t needed, DFWOMS’s board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons offer targeted solutions to balance and enhance your facial contours — at our Irving, Mesquite, and Ennis locations.
Adding definition or removing excess — tailored to you
Facial balance is determined by the proportions and contours of your features. When certain areas lack definition — a weak chin, flat cheeks, or an underprojected jaw — facial implants can add the structure needed to bring the face into harmony. When excess fatty tissue in the cheeks, chin, or neck creates a heavy or prematurely aged appearance, facial liposuction offers a minimally invasive solution to restore definition and contour.
At DFWOMS, our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons are uniquely trained in the full anatomy of the face — making them ideally suited to perform these procedures with precision, a thorough understanding of facial proportion, and results that look natural and complement your existing features. Both procedures can be performed independently or combined with each other or with other facial rejuvenation procedures for a more comprehensive outcome.
Facial implants
Facial implants are solid, biocompatible devices placed beneath the skin against the underlying bone to add volume, projection, and definition to specific areas of the face. They are a long-lasting, stable alternative to injectable fillers for patients seeking permanent structural enhancement.
A receding or underprojected chin can make the nose appear larger than it is, weaken the jawline, and disrupt the overall balance of the face. A chin implant adds forward projection and definition — improving the profile, strengthening the lower face, and creating a more balanced relationship between the chin, lips, and nose. It is often one of the most impactful changes achievable with a single, relatively simple procedure. The implant is placed through a small incision inside the mouth or under the chin, leaving no visible scar.
High, defined cheekbones are a hallmark of facial youth and attractiveness. In patients with flat or sunken midfaces, cheek implants restore volume and prominence to the malar region — creating a more youthful, sculpted appearance. The implant is placed through a small incision inside the mouth along the upper gum line, leaving no visible external scar. Results are permanent and natural in appearance once swelling resolves.
A weak or narrow jawline can undermine facial definition, particularly in men seeking a stronger, more structured lower face. Jaw implants add width, definition, and angular structure to the mandible — improving facial harmony and the overall strength of the lower third of the face. Placed through intraoral incisions, this procedure leaves no visible external scarring and produces lasting, structural results.
Facial liposuction
Excess subcutaneous fat in the lower face and neck can obscure the jawline, create the appearance of a double chin, and add visual heaviness to the face that makes patients look older or heavier than they feel. Facial liposuction removes this fat with a minimally invasive suctioning technique through tiny incisions — restoring the definition of the jawline, chin, and neck.
The best candidates for facial liposuction are patients with good skin tone and elasticity who have localized excess fat in the face or neck — but whose skin can contract naturally after fat removal to conform to the new contours. Skin quality is a key factor: patients with significant skin laxity may achieve better results with a facelift or neck lift combined with liposuction rather than liposuction alone. Your surgeon will assess your skin tone during the consultation and advise you on the most appropriate approach. Lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet, and exercise also influence outcomes, and we discuss these during planning.
Facial liposuction is most commonly performed on the submental area (under the chin), the jowls, and the neck. Tiny incisions are placed in inconspicuous locations — beneath the chin, behind the ears, or within natural skin folds — through which a small cannula is inserted to suction the excess fat. Care is taken to leave behind enough fatty tissue to adequately support the facial structures as the natural aging process continues, ensuring results that look natural and age gracefully.
Better together — when to combine implants and liposuction
Facial implants and liposuction are often most powerful when combined — either with each other or with other facial rejuvenation procedures at DFWOMS. Common combinations include:
What to expect, step by step
We begin with a detailed discussion of your concerns and goals, followed by a thorough analysis of your facial proportions, bone structure, skin quality, and soft tissue volume. Our surgeons assess which areas would most benefit from augmentation or reduction, and whether a single procedure or a combination best addresses your specific situation. Imaging may be used to help you visualize the expected changes.
For implants, size and shape are selected based on your facial anatomy and goals — implants come in a range of sizes and profiles, and the right choice is determined by what will look natural and harmonious for your specific face. For liposuction, the areas to be treated and the volume to be removed are planned carefully, with skin tone and elasticity factored into the approach.
Both procedures are performed as outpatient surgeries under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Facial implants are placed through small intraoral incisions whenever possible, leaving no visible external scar. Facial liposuction is performed through tiny access incisions placed in inconspicuous locations. Operating time depends on the number of areas treated.
Swelling is the primary side effect of both procedures and is most noticeable in the first week. Most patients feel comfortable being seen in public within 1–2 weeks as swelling subsides. A soft diet is recommended for the first 1–2 weeks after implant placement. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 3–4 weeks. Our opioid-free pain management protocol keeps recovery comfortable throughout.
While significant improvement is visible within the first few weeks, final results for facial implants are fully appreciated at 2–3 months when swelling has completely resolved. Facial liposuction results continue to improve as the skin contracts over 2–4 months. Both procedures produce permanent results — implants remain stable indefinitely, and the fat cells removed by liposuction do not return.
Facial expertise and natural results
Common questions about facial implants & liposuction
Yes. Facial implants made from biocompatible materials are designed to be permanent. They do not need to be replaced and remain stable within the facial skeleton indefinitely. Unlike injectable fillers, which require repeated treatments as they are reabsorbed, a facial implant provides lasting structural augmentation from a single procedure. Implants can be removed or replaced if your preferences change, but the vast majority of patients are satisfied with their results long-term.
Modern facial implants are made from soft, flexible, biocompatible materials that closely mimic the feel of natural tissue once placed. They are positioned beneath the skin and directly against the bone, so they move with the face naturally. Once fully healed, most patients report that their implant is undetectable — to both touch and vision. Swelling in the first few weeks may create a slightly firmer feel, but this resolves as healing progresses.
For some patients, yes — a chin implant is a simpler, less invasive alternative that achieves excellent aesthetic results when the concern is primarily cosmetic (improving the profile or chin projection) and the bite is normal. However, if your bite is also affected — if the teeth don’t meet correctly — a genioplasty (surgical repositioning of the chin bone) or orthognathic surgery may be more appropriate. Our surgeons will evaluate both your aesthetic goals and your bite during your consultation and recommend the approach that best addresses your complete picture.
The fat cells removed by liposuction do not regenerate — so the structural improvement to your contours is permanent. However, significant weight gain after the procedure can cause remaining fat cells in the treated area and throughout the face to enlarge, which can alter results over time. Maintaining a stable weight following the procedure is the best way to preserve long-term outcomes. Natural aging will also gradually change the face, but liposuction results generally age well when skin quality is good at the time of surgery.
The answer depends on your facial anatomy. Some patients have both areas that lack definition and areas with excess volume — in which case combining implants and liposuction in a single session is the most efficient approach. Others need only one or the other. The best way to determine what is right for you is through a personalized consultation with our surgeons, who will analyze your facial proportions and recommend the approach most likely to achieve the natural, balanced result you are looking for.
Purely cosmetic facial implants and facial liposuction are generally not covered by insurance. If a procedure is performed for medically documented functional reasons — such as facial implants as part of reconstruction after trauma or tumor removal — coverage may apply. We offer CareCredit and LendingClub financing options for cosmetic procedures. Our team will help you understand your financing options at your consultation.
